Several of our clients have experienced a warning when they access our web site.  The warning mentions that our security certificate has expired.  Sometimes our clients have the option to proceed to our web site anyway - other times, our clients have been blocked completely from our site.

We apologize for this inconvenience.  We also want to assure you, our valued partner, that this issue was not caused by GoldStar, nor has our security certificate ever expired.  The issue is caused by the way Microsoft's Internet Explorer handles security certificates.

Internet Explorer saves copies of security certificates so that it does not have to download a fresh copy every time you access a secure site.  Internet Explorer is also supposed to check web sites to see if a web site has an updated security certificate.  Unfortunately, this process, at times, breaks down.

In our case, some of our clients' Internet Explorer had saved a copy of our old security certificate.  It then failed to verify and copy the new certificate when it was issued in 2005.  For some of our clients, this has caused their Internet Explorer to give out a false warning about our web site and for some, to even block them completely from our site.

Fortunately, there is an easy solution.  Users can delete old copies of security certificates from Internet Explorer.  This forces Internet Explorer to get a new copy from our web site.

With Internet Explorer open
Click on “Tools”
Select “Internet Options”
Click on the “Content” tab (across the top of the Options box)
Click on “Certificates” (in the middle of the Options box)
Click on the “Intermediate Certification Authorities” tab
You will see several columns of data.
Click on the word “Expiration” at the top of column 3
This will sort the data by expiration date
You will see several expired certificates.
The one that is causing our trouble is listed under the “Issued to” column and is labeled www.verisign.com/CPS
Select this certificate by clicking on it – then click on the “Remove” button
In fact, you should be safe to delete every certificate that has expired – if you wish.

You should now be able to login to your GoldStar account without any further certificate warnings.
